The Museum of Extraordinary Things

A project based on Alice Hoffman’s novel with the same name, for Viktor Koen’s class at SVA.

I was intrigued by the two female characters in the book. One was a girl with hand deformity that was used as “The Human Mermaid” in the museum, the other one was a maid who was controlled by the owner of the museum and whose face was burnt with acid by the same man.

I wanted to show the situation they were in by drawing them as exhibits in the museum, and show the cruelty of freak shows at that time.
